I AM HUMBLED and at the same time joyful to be invited to witness the grand consecration and opening of the Shri Chinmaya Annapoorna Devi Temple here in Chatsworth.
The opening of this temple is a moment of religious significance for our Hindu community, and a milestone that reflects the rich spiritual and cultural diversity of KwaZulu-Natal.
As we gather in this sacred space to celebrate the opening of this temple dedicated to Devi Annapoorna, the Goddess of Abundance, we are reminded of the powerful role that spirituality plays in guiding us toward a life of compassion, unity, and service to others.
The creation of this temple is a testament to the strength of faith, the unity of purpose, and the shared values of love and devotion that bind us together as one community.
Today’s event also holds special significance as earlier today the world commemorated World AIDS Day – a day to remember those we have lost, to show solidarity with those living with HIV/AIDS, and to continue the fight against this epidemic.
This dual occasion presents a unique opportunity for us to reflect on the connections between our spiritual practices and our social responsibilities.
As the Goddess Annapoorna is worshipped for her abundance, we are reminded of the abundance of life that we must protect for every individual – especially those affected by HIV/AIDS.
It is our shared responsibility to ensure that our communities are places where no one is left behind, where compassion is the foundation upon which we build our future, and where care and support are available to all, regardless of their circumstances.
We need to do all we can to inspire new hope among all nations, irrespective of religious affiliation.
The opening of this temple is an invitation to spread the message of Devi Ma’s grace far and wide. Through the teachings of the Chinmaya Mission, we are called to become instruments of that grace, to touch the hearts of all, and to inspire lives filled with love, service, and kindness.
In a world that often faces division and hardship, the principles of devotion and selflessness embodied here are more necessary than ever. Let us embrace these teachings and spread them in our daily lives, in our communities, and to those who need our support most.
As we dedicate this temple, we also rededicate ourselves to the fight against HIV/AIDS.
We pledge to continue our efforts toward education, prevention, and care. Let us use this moment to renew our commitment to the health and well-being of every person, particularly the most vulnerable among us.
May the blessings of Devi Annapoorna inspire each of us to contribute to a society where health, peace, and prosperity are accessible to all.
In closing, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the Chinmaya Mission and to all those who have contributed to making this temple a reality. May this sacred space be a ray of hope, light, love, and service for generations to come.
Thank you, and may Devi Ma’s blessings be with you all.
