Twin sisters Alka and Jhanvi Januk graduated with LLB degrees, inspired by their attorney mother and driven by their passion for social change and intellectual challenges.

The pair graduated during the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s Autumn graduation on Tuesday.

Alka and Jhanvi, from Reservoir Hills, were not only drawn to law because of their mother but also for their own personal reasons.

Alka decided to study law because of her rooted desire to spark social change.

“I pursued an LLB degree, driven by a genuine desire to empower others. My goal has always been to use law as a tool to effect meaningful change, advocate for the rights of the vulnerable, and contribute positively to my community,” she said.

Jhanvi was initially drawn to the law’s power to shape lives, but now finds herself attracted to the intellectual challenges the field offers.

“I discovered early on that I had a strong aptitude for understanding and applying legal concepts. I wanted to build a career that not only challenged me academically, but also allowed me to make a meaningful impact,” she said.

The twins attributed their success and work ethic to their upbringing. They were especially inspired by their mother, who is an attorney.

They said balancing lectures, study sessions and extra-curricular responsibilities was not easy but they always made sacrifices to ensure they came out successful.

They are now preparing to go their separate journeys.

Alka is preparing to complete her practical vocational training and ultimately become an admitted attorney, while Jhanvi is already immersed in the legal world, currently serving her articles of clerkship at Cox Yeats Attorneys.
