Rohini Jayalall, a mathematics teacher at Palmview Secondary School in Phoenix, tragically lost her life in a multi-vehicle crash on the R61 near Shelly Beach on Tuesday.
In a statement, Craig Botha, the spokesperson for the KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service, said the collision involved a bakkie towing a trailer and two other vehicles.
Botha said two others died in the collision.
Jayalall, 35, from Phoenix, who was also a private tutor, started teaching at the school eight years ago.
Kershnee Dookhi, the school's administrator and Jayalall’s friend, said: “Rohini and I were neighbours and friends before we joined Palmview Secondary School. She was the type of person who lit up every room. Her personality was bubbly and magnetic, and she made us feel special with her kindness. My heart will forever hold a special place for her. Her pupils and staff also adored her."
She said a memorial service would be held at the school.
Arrangements are being made for the funeral.
