MATRIC pupils at Orient Islamic School in Berea, well underway with the trial exams, say they cannot believe the 2025 National Senior Certificate examination is just over a month away.
Zuhaira Ismail, 18, from the Bluff, said the trial exams have been good so far.
"I have been studying for the trials and the fast approaching final exams. I cannot believe it's just around the corner. I am using mind maps and flash cards to help remember my work. My favourite subject is geography, so I hope to do well,” said Zuhaira.
She wants to become a flight attendant.
Mohammed Ali, 18, from North Beach, said: “All my papers have been challenging but good thus far. My business studies paper was as expected, and I hope to do well. As for the finals, I am studying concurrently with the trials to be ready. I ensure I go over past year papers every day so I am sufficiently ready. My favourite subject is maths literacy."
Mohammed wants to study BCom accounting.
Maseeha Omar, 18, from Overport, said business studies was one of the best papers.
“I have always liked business studies, especially the human resources section."
The finals are fast approaching and it is stressful, she said.
"It becomes overwhelming to think about, especially since we are close to finishing school. However, I am studying towards the finals every day and hope I do well."
Omar wants to study teaching.
Sayfullah Khan, 17, from Musgrave, said despite the trials being difficult, he would ensure he was ready for the finals.
“Some papers were difficult but I pushed through. I am already thinking about the finals. I memorise work and watch videos on solving maths problems. I am sad to finish school but I am excited for my future."
Khan wants to study BCom accounting.
Dr Rakesh Singh, the newly-appointed principal, said: “We have cases where some pupils are dedicated while others are not but I hope all my pupils receive extra motivation to do well. The matric exams, especially trials, are not the end all and be all, so if you fall short in the trials then just try to do better in finals."
The NSC finals will start on October 21 and end on November 26.
