A HORRIFIC collision between a truck and car on the M7 Pinetown-bound carriageway, just before the N2 Bridge near the Bluff, has left two people dead and two others injured.
Emergency services encountered a chaotic scene on Sunday morning, with both vehicles having left the roadway. Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash.
According to ALS Paramedics, emergency services were dispatched just after 11:30am following reports of a serious crash involving a truck and a light motor vehicle. Both vehicles left the roadway after the collision.
ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson described a chaotic scene on arrival.
“Paramedics arrived on the scene to find chaos and carnage as they found that a truck and a light motor vehicle had collided before both left the road,” he said.

The eThekwini Fire Department was immediately called in to assist as paramedics made their way to the wreckage. The light motor vehicle was found overturned, with two occupants trapped inside.
“Paramedics and firefighters worked to gain entry into the vehicle and found a male in his 60s and a female in her 40s who had sustained fatal injuries. Unfortunately there was nothing paramedics could do for them and they were declared deceased on the scene.”
The truck driver and a passenger were located down an embankment. Due to the terrain, a rope rescue system had to be set up to bring them to the roadside.
“Advanced Life Support Paramedics stabilized both of them on scene before they were taken to a nearby hospital for the further care that they required,” Jamieson added.
Authorities said the scene remained active for several hours to allow for investigations and the recovery of the vehicles.
“At this stage the events leading up to the crash are unknown; however SAPS and Metro Police were in attendance and will be investigating further,” Jamieson said.
