Movie review: With Love

Director: Madhan

Rating: 8/10

A FEELGOOD, romantic comedy with fresh faces and great music is always a perfect blend for happiness on celluloid – and With Love delivers on every front.

After making his directorial debut with the 2025 hit Tourist Family, Abhishan Jeevanth steps into 2026 as a debut lead in this release, which has now landed on OTT platforms and continues to win hearts worldwide.

Satya (Abhishan Jeevinth) is constantly set up with potential suitors by his elder sister. He reluctantly agrees to meet Monisha (Anashwara Rajan) and what begins as a routine set-up quickly turns into something far more unexpected. As the two get to know each other, they realise they attended the same high school and share mutual acquaintances. Soon, they open up about their unfulfilled teenage love stories – the ones that never quite found closure.

Monisha, spirited and determined, decides they should track down their high school sweethearts and finally confess their long-buried feelings. Satya sees little point in this idea, but Monisha’s enthusiasm wins him over. Together, they set off to find Anisha and Balaji, embarking on a charming, light-hearted journey filled with humour, nostalgia and unexpected emotions.

Kudos to producers Soundarya Rajinikanth, Pasilian Nazerath and Magesh Raj Pasilian for bringing in a new generation of artists for this project.

Director Madhan, who previously worked as an assistant director on Lover and Tourist Family, delivers a debut film that feels light on the soul, honest in its emotions and effortlessly relatable. His storytelling gently transports you back to your own quiet, unspoken love story, making the experience both nostalgic and deeply personal.

Abhishan is charming in demeanour, with effective comedic timing and emotional depth – channelling these traits well enough to make him the perfect “boy next door”. Anaswaran is energetic as lead character Monisha, and her presence keeps the film fresh, engaging and active – lighting up the scenes and adding charisma to the world of the shy Sathya.

Preppy, nostalgic and feelings of first love culminate the musical aftertaste that music director Sean Roldan has curated for the film – with Marandhe Poche in particular finding a permanent home on everyone’s playlist. With Love is a breezy entertainer that you can stream on Netflix.
