About Us

Over its long history, the paper has consistently sought to provide insightful coverage of local, national, and international affairs. It forms part of the Independent Media brand in South Africa's parliamentary capital.

The Cape Times has a proud legacy of impactful journalism, notably gaining international prominence in 1985 for publishing an interview with the then-banned ANC leader, Oliver Tambo. This significant event helped shape the narrative towards a non-racial South Africa.

Today, the Cape Times continues its commitment to delivering comprehensive news, in-depth analysis, diverse opinions, and compelling lifestyle and sports content.

Our editorial approach is dedicated to being progressive, inclusive and representative of Cape Town's diverse communities, fostering a platform for a variety of viewpoints essential for a thriving democracy.
