Gaborone - Disgraced Fifa executive board member Ishmael Bhamjee secretly slipped into his home country of Botswana on Tuesday and was whisked away by local soccer officials.
He was met by officials of the Confederation of Southern African Football Associations (Cosafa) and the Botswana Football Association (BFA).
At his home in Gaborone, family and friends gathered to offer solace to Bhamjee.
His future in African soccer now hangs in the balance after Fifa kicked him out of the World Cup at the weekend for selling match tickets at grossly-inflated prices.
Fifa president Sepp Blatter stated that he expected Africa through the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to replace Bhamjee on Fifa's executive.
BFA and Cosafa will determine whether Bhamjee retains their support for his position on CAF's board and therefore on the Fifa executive board.
