Fans paying a fortune for Lions tour tickets

It is being punted as the hottest event on the 2009 South African sports calendar - and VIP hospitality tickets for the British and Irish Lions tour next year are already being snapped up for thousands of rands.

The tour next June and July includes 10 matches and three Tests.

South African Rugby says it has not released ticket prices yet and will do so once discussions with the provincial rugby unions have been finalised.

SA Rugby might be remaining mum on ticket prices, but a range of hospitality tickets are already being marketed for corporations or for diehard fans willing to spend on average between R3 000 and R4 000 a shot.

The price of a top-notch suite package is as high as R10 800.

Circa Hospitality and Warwick Hospitality & Events were appointed as the official hospitality providers for the tour.

Jaco Beukes, chief operating officer of Circa, says the hospitality packages are now available and offer a great opportunity to entertain guests at what will be "the hottest South African sports event of the year".

The hospitality tickets are more expensive than usual because they have to add a 10% inflation rate and include the actual rugby ticket, which is more expensive than for other events, he adds.
