IN A heart-warming response to community need, it has been two weeks since the launch of the "Adopt a Child" campaign, in partnership with the Chinmaya Mission’s Flourish to Nourish team.
The response from POST readers has been nothing short of remarkable, demonstrating a profound commitment to uplifting the lives of South Africa's youth.
Our readers have generously opened their hearts and wallets to this project.
Why should you consider supporting the Adopt a Child campaign?
As Nelson Mandela poignantly stated, “Overcoming poverty is not a task of charity, it is an act of justice”.
This sentiment resonates deeply in South Africa, a country grappling with the highest income inequality in the world.
It serves as a call to action for those in better circumstances to reach out and assist the less fortunate - an ethos at the very heart of this campaign.
The Nourish to Flourish initiative, led by the Chinmaya Mission of South Africa, is already making significant strides in this endeavour. Since October 2024, the project has been providing meals to over 1 000 underprivileged individuals each day, focusing particularly on more than 800 school children across 16 schools.
For many of these youths, a single meal at school represents their only nourishment for the day. This initiative not only aids their physical health but also enhances their capacity to focus and engage in the learning process, thereby enabling them to reap the full benefits of their education.
As part of its 70-year celebrations, POST Newspapers is proud to collaborate with Nourish to Flourish by encouraging readers to adopt a child for just R200 a month. This modest amount ensures that a young child receives a meal during school each day for an entire month. By partnering in this effort, POST seeks not only to commemorate its anniversary but also to create a sustainable, healthier community for all.
Reflecting on this mission, HH Swami Abhedandanda, the visionary behind the Nourish to Flourish initiative, shares a powerful insight: “Life is not about taking but about giving. Those who are sad are taking, and those who are truly happy are contributors in society.”
