Eastbury Secondary School marks its 42nd anniversary with Legacy Fest, a community fundraiser aimed at enhancing educational facilities and fostering community spirit.
Sarisha Mathurajh-Singh, the language teacher at the school, said the fundraiser would take place on Friday at the Stanmore Regional Hall in Phoenix.
“The is our first official fundraiser of this kind. The school organised the event to bridge critical funding gaps and support programs that fall outside standard Department of Education provisions, such as technology upgrades, building maintenance, resources, and wellness initiatives," said Mathurajh-Singh.
She said the idea was born from staff members, who brainstormed a unique theme that reflected Eastbury Secondary's creativity and community spirit.
"This was their personal project to get some much-needed funding back into the school. While the Department of Education provides essential funding, it often covers only the basics. So we needed a way to generate additional funds ourselves.
“Beyond raising funds, the school hopes to strengthen community ties and promote pride in Eastbury’s values. It’s also a chance to create memories, inspire future initiatives, and build a culture of giving back."
She said the staff hoped to relay the school's dedication to education through the fundraiser.
“Eastbury has proudly served its community for 42 years, standing as a pillar of education, growth, and opportunity. The school’s legacy is built on a foundation of dedication, from its passionate staff and committed management team to a supportive School Governing Body. Eastbury is more than a school; it’s a community institution that has consistently prioritised pupils' development, inclusion, and excellence.
“The staff have poured their energy into this event, not just for the cause, but because it’s a celebration of the school’s heart and spirit. It’s a moment of unity and purpose that everyone’s thrilled to be part of."
The Legacy Fest will have acts such as Bash with Tash, The Dingalings, Ashleigh J and Tehillah Faith, alongside DJ Shazzy and DJ Slyde.
“What’s most important is that everyone involved is contributing meaningfully to make the event a success. But Legacy Fest is more than just a night of laughter. It's a heartfelt initiative to uplift Eastbury Secondary School and invest in its future. Proceeds from the event will go towards enhancing school facilities, supporting learner development initiatives, and fostering a nurturing environment for academic and personal growth."
The event coordinator and business studies teacher, Bradley O'Neal Munoo, added: “Legacy Fest is about more than fundraising, it's about building something lasting for our pupils and strengthening ties with our broader community."
