THE Ramakrishna Centre of South Africa will host the centenary celebrations commemorating the 100th birth anniversary of Swami Nischalananda, the founder and first president of the centre, which he established in 1942.
The event will be held on Sunday, May 18, at the Kendra Hall in Durban at 10am.
Born Dhanagopal Naidoo in 1925 in Newcastle, Swami Nischalananda was a visionary spiritual leader dedicated to uplifting South Africa’s Hindu community.
He established the centre to promote the ideals of Sri Ramakrishna, Sri Sarada Devi, and Swami Vivekananda. His legacy lives on through the centre’s extensive work in nutrition programmes, health services, education, and women empowerment.
The programme will feature Professor Anil Sooklal, the High Commissioner of South Africa to India, along with Pravrajika Ishtaprana Mataji, the spiritual head of the Sri Sarada Devi Ashram.
Special guests include Swami Swatmaramanandaji Maharaj, President of the Ramakrishna Centre of South Africa, and world-renowned musicians from India, Annada Prasanna Pattanaik (flautist), Varun Pradeep (singer and keyboard-player) and Venkatesh Chandrashekar (tabla player), who are scheduled to perform at the event.
Lunch and snacks will be served. Entry is free and open to all who register.
