AS THE sweltering heat of summer approaches, Phoenix Child Welfare has issued a critical appeal for water donations to sustain the needs of the Phoenix Children’s Homes and the Sahara Shelter.
With the city grappling with escalating water shortages and parched conditions, the necessity for clean drinking water has reached alarming levels.
The looming heat places an additional burden on already vulnerable groups. For the children under the care of Phoenix Child Welfare, access to hydration is vital for their health, growth, and ability to thrive in the harsh weather. The situation is equally dire in the waiting room of Phoenix Child Welfare, where clients struggle with thirst and discomfort while seeking vital services.
“Without sufficient water, our children and shelter clients are facing immense distress. Basic needs like drinking, cooking, and maintaining hygiene are becoming increasingly difficult to meet,” said Raj Saroop, President of Phoenix Child Welfare.
“We are in dire need of 5-litre bottles of water to ensure the well-being of those in our care. However, the ramifications of the water crisis extend beyond mere physical health. Prolonged water shortages contribute to heightened stress and anxiety, creating additional strain on individuals who are already navigating a landscape of trauma and hardship. For children, the lack of potable water can result in dehydration, fatigue, and hindered development - risks that significantly rise as summer temperatures climb."
In response, the Phoenix Child Welfare is appealing for donations of 5-litre bottles of drinking water. Contributions can be delivered directly to the organisation at 10 Featherstone Place, Whetstone, Phoenix, where collection arrangements can also be made.
