THE countdown has begun.

One of the most prestigious golfing events in KZN, the famed Central Durban Memorial about to happen!

All golfers need to diairise this date - November 23 at the picturesque, challenging Royal Durban Golf Course, adjacent to the Greyville racing track.

The tournament, now in its 47th year, was originally namedthe Papwa Memorial, in honour of golfing legend, Sewsunker ( Papwa) Sewgolum, who rose to great heights from being a caddie, to becoming the winner of the Natal Open, and, of course, the Dutch Open, among other triumphs.

Following his untimely deatho n July 5, 1978, at age 50, the POST newspaper stepped in to organise a fund-raiser at Windsor Parkto assist Papwa's family. Papwa's legacy continues to live on in the form of his famed putter, one of the main prizes, whichwas handed over to the CDGC, by former POST Editor, Brijlall Ramguthee, shortly after the inauguration ofthe Memorial.
