IN A HEARTWARMING display of talent and academic excellence, three siblings from the Govender family, of Redfern in Phoenix, have made their parents proud after they each placed first at Whetstone Primary School's awards day last week.
The eldest, Malaika Govender, 13, who is in Grade 7, placed first overall and excelled in all nine subjects – English, Afrikaans, mathematics, economic and management science, natural science and technology, creative arts, technology, life orientation, and social sciences.
She received the Dux Award, Excellence in Leadership Award, and delivered the farewell speech at the awards day.
Malaika also earned first place for a speech contest in Phoenix, Verulam, and Tongaat in August; was part of Whetstone Primary's coding and robotics team that placed first in the district; and qualified for the Tangible Coding and Robotics competition in September.
Her brother, Aahil, 10, placed first in Grade 5 with awards for maths games and soccer. And little Armaan, 5, placed first in Grade R.
Her mom, Aishah, said: "As parents, we couldn’t be prouder of Malaika, Aahil, and Armaan. Malaika has not only excelled in every way at Whetstone Primary, but she has also been a wonderful role-model to her younger brothers. Aahil and Armaan have shone brilliantly in their own achievements. We wish Malaika all the best as she embarks on her exciting journey to high school - keep inspiring and shining, our amazing children."
