PARVATI, a beloved seven-year-old cow at the Mohanji Centre of Benevolence (MCB) in Nonoti, KwaDukuza, died on Tuesday.

In a heartfelt note on Facebook, Sulosh Pillay, the head of the centre, wrote: "Rest in peace Parvati. We bowed in silence as Parvati completed her sacred journey with us. She arrived last year carrying not just her own gentle presence, but the divine responsibility of motherhood. With infinite patience and quiet strength, she nurtured her beloved baby Muruga, feeding him, protecting him, and guiding him until he was fully weaned, grounded, and ready to step into life sustained by solid food. Only once her duty was fulfilled did she choose to rest. There was no struggle only grace. As if her soul whispered, 'My work here is done'.

"In a moment of profound trust, Parvati placed Muruga into the gentle guardianship of Nandi, and then slipped peacefully beyond the veil. A mother’s love so complete that it knew exactly when to let go. We did not witness loss alone, we witnessed completion. Parvati leaves behind more than memories; she leaves behind a living testament of selfless love and a soul that departed only when all was done. Her presence will continue to echo in Muruga’s breath, in Nandi’s watchful care, and in the sacred soil of MCB  that held her with such love.

"May Parvati rest in eternal peace. May her journey onward be light, free, and blessed as she is carried by Mohanji and Baba, and may we remember her not with sorrow, but with reverence, for she lived and left as a true embodiment of divine motherhood. RIP our beloved Parvati."

The MCB, founded by Mohanji, a humanitarian, spiritual guide, and philanthropist, is a global network of spiritual sanctuaries focused on unconditional love, selfless service, and inner peace. It offers a haven for spiritual growth, humanitarian aid, and connection with nature, all while promoting unity and non-violence for all beings, regardless of background. Cows are central to its ethos, symbolising divine abundance (Kamadenu) and unconditional love, serving as living reminders of purity, service, and non-violence.

"Pillay said keeping Parvati at the MCB was never an act of ownership, but one of guardianship, seva, and surrender. In our tradition, the cow is revered as sacred an embodiment of motherhood, abundance, patience, and selfless giving. Parvati was donated and lived among us not as an animal, but as a presence that anchored gentleness, purity, and dharma on our land."
