Vishwa Hindu Parishad SA to explore 'The National Reset' at 2nd National Hindu Conference

ON FEBRUARY 28, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad South Africa will host its 2nd National Hindu Conference at the Shree Ayyappaa Kshetram in Pretoria, bringing together a diverse array of influential voices within the Hindu community. 

Delegates, including Swamis, Hindu leaders, government officials, politicians, researchers, youth and medical volunteers, will engage in meaningful dialogue on a theme that resonates with the current socio-economic landscape: "The National Reset - A Vision for a Progressive South Africa."

Pravesh Hurdeen, the secretary general of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad SA, said that such a conference was needed today.

"The Hindu community's history and contribution to the ethos of a South African way of life have given us character and promise. In spite of the brutal shackles of colonialism and the suffering endured during apartheid, the Hindu endured and built a formidable legacy based on the value system of Sanathana Dharma.

"The arrival of Hindus on the shores of Africa not only changed the history of South Africa but also contributed to our country's rich diversity. This year's conference reflects upon the theme: 'The National Reset - A Vision for a Progressive South Africa'. This theme sets into motion the need to reflect upon identity, self-determination, and fulfilling meaningful change in our various capacities."

He said society was experiencing many challenges, including unemployment, career dissatisfaction, lack of political assertion, and social issues.

Hurdeen added that the alarming rate of mental health challenges, anxiety, gender-based violence, and various forms of abuse also threatened society.

"The conference proposes a platform for scholars and practitioners to explore how ancient wisdom, including Ayurveda and Yoga, can be integral in addressing and realigning contemporary issues, thereby fostering a climate of renewal. Representation in economic, political, medical, and other professional sectors will also be addressed. This is an important opportunity to define, revitalise, and reclaim core principles that impact our society."

The conference's objectives:

- To bring together scholars, practitioners, and community leaders to discuss and explore the theme.

- To promote a deeper understanding of Hindu Dharma and reclaim Hindu heritage and civilisational identity and its relevance to contemporary issues.

- To foster a sense of community to develop and strengthen bonds with all communities and thereby build a stronger future for the country.

These objectives, added Hurdeen, are an important opportunity to celebrate and reset the national consciousness as a society.
