Chatsworth football entered an exciting new chapter over the past weekend, with Spinx Kuppen returning unopposed as Chairman of the Chatsworth Football Association (CFA). He is joined by a largely retained executive committee whose track record over the previous term earned them the confidence of delegates.

The endorsement, met with resounding applause, signals continuity built on proven performance.

"This is a pivotal moment for Chatsworth football," said Kuppen, who now embarks on another term at the helm. "If we strengthen our grassroots level, we strengthen the future of our game. Our children must feel inspired, our communities involved, and competitions vibrant and competitive."

Under his leadership, the CFA plans to prioritise grassroots development, with a special focus on schools football and providing more game time for juniors. The association already runs one of the largest youth football structures in the country, with over 100 teams across both boys' and girls' divisions .

Mazwi Mkhize, President of SAFA eThekwini, attended the congress and underscored the importance of local football governance.

"Local congresses like this are vital for reporting on the progress of the past four years, how public funds were managed, how junior football and girls' programmes have developed, and how coaching and refereeing standards have been upheld," he said. "The CFA membership's endorsement of Mr Kuppen and his executive reflects a strong mandate for the future."

Mkhize also highlighted the importance of inclusive youth development.

"Under-13 teams should play together, boys and girls, to give all children more exposure. This method helps girls gain crucial experience before forming dedicated teams at 13, similar to what has contributed to the strength of women's European teams."

SAFA eThekwini plays a key role in supporting the CFA, ensuring coaches are licensed, referees are accredited, and governance standards are maintained.

"Not all players will become professionals, but refereeing and coaching offer career pathways too," Mkhize added.

"Proper structures, coaching, and game opportunities can take Chatsworth players far."

Desmond Ganesan, Vice President of SAFA eThekwini, commended the CFA's achievements during the previous term.

"They acquired significant sponsorship and ran an exceptionally well-organised association," he said.

"The next four years will see them promote more teams to compete at regional levels, which is essential for producing players who can reach professional and national levels."

Looking ahead, both Mkhize and Ganesan stressed the importance of protecting football spaces from commercial encroachment and building sustainable partnerships with local businesses. Mini-stadia, they suggested, could be used not only for football but for community events, generating revenue and further embedding the sport into the social fabric of Chatsworth.

"Together, with teamwork, integrity, and a shared commitment, we will move Chatsworth football forward," Kuppen said.
