IN THE heart of a city grappling with rising costs and social challenges, a quiet revolution of compassion is taking place. Under the spiritual guidance of Pujya Swami Abhedananda, the Chinmaya Mission of South Africa has reached a staggering milestone through its flagship Nourish to Flourish project: serving over 2,000 meals every single day to Durban’s most vulnerable citizens.
In a powerful partnership, the POST has joined hands with Nourish to Flourish to shine a light on this mission of poverty alleviation. Together, we are calling on the community to turn "hunger into hope."
The scale of the project is a testament to the mission’s dedication.

The scale of the project is a testament to the mission’s dedication. Every week, the Nourish to Flourish kitchens become a lifeline for a diverse cross-section of society. The impact is felt across nine critical pillars:
● 900 school children: ensuring that hunger is not a barrier to education.
● 800 abused children, youth, and orphans: providing more than just food, but a sense of security and care.
● 650 elderly citizens: honoring our pioneers with dignity and a warm meal.
● 600 homeless individuals: offering a basic human right to those with no place to call home.
● 550 patients battling illness: supporting the physical recovery of those in medical distress.
● 500 disaster-affected people: providing immediate relief during Durban’s times of crisis.
● 150 persons with disabilities and 100 abused women: standing in solidarity with those facing unique societal hurdles.
While the numbers are impressive, the philosophy behind the project is simple: adopt a deserving person. The mission has calculated that just R200 per month - the cost of a few cups of coffee - is enough to sustain one person’s nutritional needs through this project.
This "Adoption Model" allows Durban residents to see the direct impact of their generosity, moving away from abstract charity toward a tangible, personal connection with someone in need.
"Durban needs Nourish to Flourish, but Nourish to Flourish needs you," the mission states.
The project is not merely about calories; it is about restoring the spirit of Ubuntu and the spiritual principle of Seva (selfless service) as taught by Swami Abhedananda.
The POST and the Chinmaya Mission invite you to be the catalyst for change. Whether you are a corporate entity or an individual, your contribution ensures that no child goes to school hungry and no elderly person goes to bed without a meal.
