Magnum Predators VC roar to life with flawless tournament win

From the very first serve of the Tongaat Volleyball Association (TVA) opening tournament, Predators Volleyball Club looked like a team on a mission. They powered through the group stage with a brand of volleyball that was both commanding and composed, using the opportunity to rotate their full squad and build momentum.

By the time the semi-finals arrived, they were firing on all cylinders, sweeping past Belvedere Raiders with the kind of clinical efficiency that left no doubt about their intentions.

That set up a tantalising final against Liberté, one of their fiercest rivals. And in the championship decider, held at the Tongaat Indoor Centre over the weekend, Predators delivered their most complete performance yet, clinching the title without dropping a single set.

For captain Quwin Naidoo, the victory was about more than silverware.

“Honestly, it feels good to be back out there and winning again,” Naidoo said.

“We’ve got a solid core, most of us have been together since winning Champions Cup a few years ago, and now we’ve brought in some young talent that’s just added a whole new energy to the group. They’re eager, they’re fearless, and they’ve slotted right in. That mix is what made this opening tournament special,” Naidoo said.

“And to do it without dropping a single set? That’s not easy, no matter who you’re playing. But what really made it sweet was facing Liberté in the final. They’re one of our fiercest rivals, so you know there’s always that extra edge.”

“We kept our composure, trusted each other, and got the job done. But it wasn’t just about winning. We wanted to put on a show. Big attacks, big blocks, playing with confidence. We believe in playing volleyball that’s entertaining,” Naidoo added.

The club, formed in 2019, has returned to competition after a brief administrative pause. Now back with renewed purpose, they are competing in the TVA League, widely regarded as one of the most competitive volleyball structures in the country.

Their ambitions extend well beyond the league opener. Predators have set their sights on KZN tournaments and, ultimately, a second title at Volleyball South Africa’s Champions Cup, the country’s elite club competition, set to take place in September. The club previously lifted the Champions Cup trophy in 2022.

A key factor in their return has been the backing of sponsors who believe in their vision. One of those partners is Magnum Windows and Doors, a company with 45 years of industry presence.

“We chose to sponsor the Magnum Predators because they stand for what we believe in: discipline, hard work and integrity,” said business owner Leon Mandhiri.

“Their strong code of conduct and dedication to training show they’re serious about excellence, both on and off the field. These values align with our brand and business ethics. Established for 45 years, we understand long-term vision.”

Naidoo acknowledged the importance of such support in helping the team regroup and aim high.

“We’ve got sponsors who believe in what we’re building. It is vital to have this sort of backing and we are grateful for their support,” he said.

“It makes a huge difference, and we want to repay that with performances like this. The ambition is simple, we’re here to compete for everything. This was just the first step. We’re excited about what this group can do.”

Mandhiri said the hope is to see the team play with heart, stick to their values, and make their community proud.

“Looking ahead, we hope they grow into a team that not only wins games but also inspires others and gives back to their community. We’re proud to support a team that holds community and sportsmanship as core values.”

With a blend of experienced core, rising talent and steadfast sponsors, Predators Volleyball Club has signalled their intent loud and clear.
