Reservoir Hills came alive with the spirit of rugby and unity on Saturday, 11 April, as the Siripat Lions Rugby Club welcomed Winterfold House School from Surrey, UK, to the Siripat Road Sports Complex.
More than just a series of matches, the day unfolded as a powerful cultural exchange, one where sport became a shared language of connection, learning and mutual respect. For the Siripat Lions, affectionately known as Amabhubesi, the occasion reflected six years of purposeful work using rugby as a vehicle for youth empowerment and community upliftment.
The partnership with Winterfold House School proved a natural fit, with both institutions grounded in the shared vision of developing young leaders equipped to positively impact their communities.

Coach Sakhile Xaba highlighted the significance of such engagements. “These cultural exchanges through sport are vital in opening the minds of our youth to different communities and perspectives. We are incredibly grateful to the Sports Masters of Winterfold House for considering us a partner in their programmes each year, and we look forward to growing this relationship.”
On the field, the action was as compelling as the occasion itself. The Siripat Lions’ U12 girls’ team displayed determination and resilience, narrowly losing to their UK counterparts. The boys’ match delivered an equally gripping contest, with end‑to‑end tries keeping spectators on edge. Despite an additional ten minutes of play, neither side could be separated, and the match concluded in a spirited draw, an outcome that reflected the evenly matched talent and determination on display.

Beyond the final whistle, the day’s deeper purpose came into focus. Mentor Misudondo Madondo praised the conduct of both teams, on and off the field. “At Siripat Lions, our foundation is built on player mentorship. We believe the true legacy we leave behind is a united community with strong, principled leaders. With the support we are receiving, both locally and internationally, the future is bright for our programmes.”

As the Winterfold House team continues their South African journey to Hluhluwe before returning home, the impact of their time in Reservoir Hills will endure. It is a reminder that rugby is far more than a game; it is a force for unity, growth and hope.
