If you are a Sharks or Springbok fanatic then remember the name Sandile Kubeka.

The Kearsney College matric pupil, who on Wednesday night won the Coo-ee Daily News School Sports Zone Hero of the Year award, is determined to wear the colours of his provincial and national team in the next few years.

Kubeka was chosen from a list of 36 pupils selected for their sporting efforts over the school year.

The vice-captain of the Kearsney rugby team and captain of the seven-a-side team, scored 11 tries this season, and has been offered a contract to play with the Sharks Academy next year.

Heather McEwan of Epworth High School in Pietermaritzburg was given a runner-up award for her achievements in indoor and outdoor hockey.

Durban High School pupil Trent Bingham was runner-up for his achievements in sailing.

Clifton College’s Senuran Muthusamy was the fourth finalist. He will take up a contract with the Dolphins.
