Durban - A ward councillor's house and vehicle were set alight after an apparent service delivery protest turned violent on the KwaZulu-Natal North Coast.
Protesters burnt down Kwadukuza councillor Jetro Banda's house and his vehicle and demanded that the mayor, Ricardo Mthembu, address them.
Protesters have gathered near the N2 in Shaka's Rock demanding a public meeting with the mayor over their disillusionment with their councillor.
Earlier, the protest turned violent, with the crowd throwing stones at police and police retaliating with stun grenades and rubber bullets.
Officers on scene have confirmed that the councillor's home and vehicle have been burned and they remained on the scene.
Police facilitated talks in an attempt to calm the situation but protesters are insisting on a public meeting with the mayor.
