Pietermaritzburg - Thulile Ngcobo, 27, with some of her paintings at her first-ever showing at the Art in the Park exhibition.

An artist from Edendale, Ngcobo is one of 61 exhibitors who will be at the annual exhibition’s new venue, the Pietermaritzburg Botanical Gardens, this year. The event opened on Wednesday and runs until Sunday.

Ngcobo matriculated from Russell High a decade ago, and says she loves art. ‘In 2007, I saw one of my paintings up as a poster at the Tatham Art Gallery and this motivated me to forge ahead,’ she said, adding that seeing all the more experienced artists around her motivated her.

Chief operations officer for Art in the Park, Zama Nxasana, is confident this will be a record year. Picture: Shan Pillay
