Durban – The Ndwedwe Local Municipality has assured its residents that all persons who had gone missing in the municipality following heavy rains and flooding had been found and some had been buried.

That was according to a statement to the community of Ndwedwe from the mayor’s desk.

“We assure you that all those who lost their lives under our municipality have been found and many of them have been buried.

“Thank you for your hard work in helping to find those who had gone missing,” the municipality said.

The municipality said there were many Ndwedwe residents who were in Durban for work, who died and some had not been found while others were returned to be buried in Ndwedwe.

“We understand that these floods have caused extensive damage to our roads and bridges but we wish the community to be patient while we try our best to restore order,” the municipality said.

It said it understood that many people looked at their problems and thought they were being ignored but there were areas such as Ndondolo, Galile, Meme, Ntaphuka, Wewe, Mona and Mission, to name a few, but also Molweni, Mzinyathi, Inanda and Clermont, which showed how big the problem was.

“We are counting in this manner because only one government has to fix everything, no matter how much the councillor wishes to rush help in certain areas but it’s not easy.

“However, we also believe that it will be sorted out,” the municipality said.

“What we ask for is tolerance and cooperation because this was a natural disaster that could not be stopped, even if we wanted to, this needs us all as a society.”
