DURBAN - The Snake Man has warned that Mozambique spitting cobras and dogs did not go well together after the snake spewed venom in a dog’s eyes a couple of weeks ago.

Jason Arnold was recently called to rescue a spitting cobra in the Westville area after it had a brief altercation with a dog.

Arnold had posted a video leading up to the rescue and afterwards.

In the video, Arnold drove to Westville, while providing background on the rescue he was headed to.

He said the dog had an altercation with a Mozambique spitting cobra and the snake then disappeared.

The homeowner who had called Arnold about the snake also informed him that his dog kept rubbing its eyes and Arnold said the homeowner should rinse his eyes out with water.

Arnold said he had been to the house before, for the previous homeowner, and he caught a few snakes, including a spitting cobra.

The snake had slithered up a sliding gate by the front door.

Arnold slowly pulled the gate towards the lock, exposing more of the snake, before grabbing its tail and placing it in a bucket.

Arnold said it was quite a small snake.

After rescuing the snake, he and the homeowner checked on the dog and tried to rinse its eyes out with more water.

Arnold said the dog’s eyes were red but a small amount of venom had entered its eyes because its eyes would have been puffy and closed.

He said it would be uncomfortable for the dog as if there was sand in her eyes, but she would be okay.

“So irrigating the dog’s eyes proved to be a lot more difficult than expected but we did manage to get some water in the eyes.”

“I can tell you now that that dog had a very little bit of venom in the eyes, it was a very mild one, so the dog will be 100%,” Arnold said.
