Man trapped 40 minutes in car that rolled down slope until passer-by calls for help

DURBAN - A man was rescued after sitting for approximately 40 minutes in his car that had left the roadway and rolled down a bank on Monday evening.

The Specialised Tactical Accident Rescue Team (Start) said at 7.04pm, their controllers received an AAA panic alert for assistance.

“A passer-by had noticed a vehicle that had left the roadway and gone down an embankment on the M13 between Winston Park and the Plantations off-ramps,” Start said.

Its control room immediately activated Netcare911 Rescue and advanced life support, Start medical and a high-angle team, Rescuetech said. The fire department and Metro Police were also contacted for their assistance.

“It was discovered that the vehicle had left the roadway and the driver had been sitting in his car for approximately 40 minutes before arrival.”

Rescuetech said the vehicle was way down the bank.

“Paramedics along with rescue personnel extracted the patient and he was transported to a nearby hospital by Meditech Emergency Response paramedics for further medical care,” Rescuetech said.
