South African music sensation Tyla took centre stage at the 2025 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, not only as the evening’s host but also as one of its big winners, earning the coveted Favourite Global Music Star (Africa) award.

The iconic show, held at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, was packed with fun, surprises, and of course, the show’s signature green slime, which Tyla got a full taste of on the night.

This marked a major career milestone for the 23-year-old singer and fashion icon, as it was her first time hosting a major international awards show.

Known for her trend-setting style and hit songs like “Water,” Tyla brought a fresh energy to the globally televised event, setting the tone with high-energy performances and playful stage moments.

After being named the winner of the Favourite Global Music Star (Africa) category, a fan-voted award that recognises artists from across the continent, she took to the stage to accept her blimp-shaped trophy and delivered a very short thank you to her fans.

“Thank you guys so much. Literally this has been so fun. I’m so happy I came to party with you guys. This was the best party ever,” she told the screaming crowd.

But no Kids’ Choice Awards is complete without slime, and Tyla was no exception.

The Grammy-award winner braced herself, with the orange blimp in hand, saying: “Just do it”, a moment before being drenched in the green goo.

The Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards are famed for their energetic atmosphere, vibrant performances, and unpredictable moments.

Tyla’s double role as host and winner not only cements her growing status in global entertainment but also serves as a proud moment for the African music scene.
