South African singer-songwriter Lady Du, born Duduzile Ngwenya, has been recognised as a leading female innovator in Africa.

She has been named the winner in the Icon of Female Innovation in Africa category at the upcoming Africa’s Stars Gala 2025.

Du's recognition extends well beyond her musical achievements. She has established herself as an author, entrepreneur and influencer.

Running her own beauty salon demonstrates her business acumen. Through her writing, she shares both personal stories and insights. With success in these varied roles, Du has become a role model for women throughout Africa.

“Lady Du’s journey of creativity, leadership and empowerment continues to inspire women across the continent and beyond. Her artistry, authorship and entrepreneurial vision exemplify the future of African innovation,” said Glocal Unity Women International, the organisation behind the gala.

The Africa’s Stars Gala will take place from December 12 to 14 at Hôtel Le Ruisseau & Galerie FN in the Republic of Congo. It is an annual gathering that brings together influential figures from across Africa.

The event aims to honour achievements, build cultural connections and inspire the next generation of African talent.

Her music has consistently made an impact on the scene. Recently, she released “Come On”, a collaboration with Khobzn Kiavalla.

This launch marked her first single in three years. In that period, she faced difficulties with her previous management, which had restricted her access to social media and other platforms.

“I’m proud of my first single in three years. My profiles were blocked, and I didn’t have access to my things because of my old manager, including my socials. Luckily, I still had Facebook and Instagram."

"This prevented me from releasing my own music, but I was able to collaborate with others. This is no longer a sad story for me. I want to appreciate you for showing me love. Please continue to stream and share my song. This is my first release as an independent artist,” she said.
