Global Citizen has announced that Cardi B will perform at the 2025 festival in Central Park this Saturday.

The New York-born rapper will be replacing singer The Weeknd, who, according to the organisation, had to cancel due to personal reasons.

The organisation took to X to share the line-up update:

“We’re thrilled to welcome New York City’s own Cardi B to the 2025 Global Citizen Festival stage in Central Park!

“Due to personal reasons, The Weeknd will no longer be performing. We’re grateful for his support and for every fan who’s taken action with us to help end extreme poverty.”

In a statement, the Canadian singer expressed his regret and appreciation to his fans, apologising for not being able to make it to the festival.

“I regret to share that, due to personal reasons, I am unable to perform at Global Citizen. Thank you to my fans for taking action, as I believe in their mission deeply. Thank you for your understanding and support,” he said.

On the other hand, Cardi B is excited to be part of the event once again.

“Central Park, I’m coming for you!!!,” she said. “I can’t wait to be home in New York, and to bring my new songs and all the DRAMA to the Global Citizen Festival.

“This one’s not like other music festivals; this one is about coming together to help children around the world, and I’m so proud to support such an important cause. New York City, see you Saturday. Let’s get it."

According to the organisation, the “Nice Guy” hitmaker first performed at the Global Citizen Festival in 2018, gracing the movement with an unforgettable show.

She has also supported campaigns like “Just Vote” in 2020 and the Global Citizen Rewards programme, encouraging fans to take action on global issues.

She returns this year to join fellow artists and activists in calling for action to bring change.

Global Citizen is a movement that brings people together to fight issues like poverty, inequality and climate change through blending entertainment with activism and by encouraging everyday actions that lead to meaningful change.

The festival takes place on Saturday, September 27, at Central Park’s Great Lawn. Cardi B joins a star-studded lineup that includes Shakira, South African sensation Tyla, Nigerian artist Ayra Starr, and US singer Mariah the Scientist.

With Hugh Jackman returning as host for the eleventh consecutive year.

The event will stream live worldwide on streaming platforms such as YouTube, Apple Music and Apple TV app to list a few.
