They stole the spotlight at the 2025 Metro FM Music Awards and now, Woodblock DJs are riding yet another career high.
The genre-bending duo, Sicelo “ButterNutt” Nkomo and Mthobisi Vuma, have officially received Double Platinum certification for their chart-blazing “Skuta Baba Remix”.
The remix, which expanded on the already electric original, features a heavyweight lineup of Cassper Nyovest, Kwesta, Buzzi Lee, Tony Dayimane, Kane Keid, Mvelost, and Set Off.
Together, they created an anthem that resonated far beyond the music charts, becoming a cultural movement powered by unity, rhythm, and street-born authenticity.
Speaking to IOL Entertainment, Woodblock DJs shared insight into the remix's creation, their approach to collaboration, and what’s next for their ever-evolving sound. When the DJs created the “Skuta Baba Remix”, they had a clear vision.
They didn't want a typical rework; they wanted it to feel alive, raw, and honest. It was also important that each featured artist’s style came through. “Everyone came into the project with respect for each other’s style, and we kept communication open.
“That collaborative spirit made it possible to blend all those different energies without losing the heart of the song.”
At the Metro FM Music Awards, the remix took home Song Of The Year and Best Viral Challenge, a clear indication of the song's success.
“Seeing people dance, remix, and engage with ‘Skuta Baba’ like that? It’s honestly the best reward.
The musicians shared that they are cooking up more remixes, new singles, and even bigger collaborations.
“We’re also diving into other genres and experimenting with different sounds to keep our music fresh. Our goal is to keep pushing the boundaries of the Skuta sound, while still keeping it real and rooted in the culture. Trust us, this is only the beginning!”
Managed by SoldOut Media, Woodblock DJs’ success represents the future of collaborative, independent, and digitally driven music in South Africa.
