Cameroonian artist Sabrina Love is carving her space on the global stage with her new album “Freely”, a 13-track project that blends Afrobeats, soul and Amapiano.
The rising star is stepping into a new chapter of her career, one defined by honesty, growth and celebration.
In an interview with “Independent Media Lifestyle”, she delves deeper into what her sophomore album means to her and how her Cameroonian roots inspire her music.
She recently released the new body of work and describes it as a reflection of her current state of mind and the lessons she has embraced along the way.
“I wanted to be honest about how I am feeling and the realities of life in general. I explored my self-growth, my peace of mind, and the strength that comes with self-discovery.
“Then there is the celebration side, because even with challenges, I believe life is meant to be enjoyed. The album brings all those pieces together.”
To celebrate the release of “Freely”, MTV Base South Africa hosted an exclusive release party.
The event marked an important milestone for the 24-year-old singer, who said she was moved by how people responded to her music, “It was a big step ahead and also very exciting and special for me.
“I felt overwhelmed by people’s reactions to each sound we played and all the positive comments I got about my album. It shows me there’s a place for my voice, my story, and my music everywhere,” she said.
Her Cameroonian heritage remains central to her sound as she shares that she grew up listening to Cameroon genres such as Makossa, Bikutsi and Bend-skin, which continue to shape her music.
“Cameroon is more than an influence; it is part of me. Even if the foundation of my songs is more global, I always make sure I put a touch of Cameroon in it, whether through slang or melodies.”
The singer has been recognised as “Best Newcomer” at the 2025 Trace Awards and has collected multiple accolades from the Balafon Music Awards and Canal 2’Or, to name a few. These achievements have contributed to keeping her focused.
“It is very inspiring and motivates me to keep up with the hard work. It shows me that I am going in a good direction, and I will continue working hard to make my music reach international audiences while staying true to myself and where I come from,” she said.
Every track on the artist’s sophomore album holds personal meaning for her; she shared that she is connected to every song, with each one being an emotion and a story on its own.
Additionally, the “Simplicity” hitmaker opened up about wanting to release an album where music enthusiasts “rediscover” her as more than an artist but also a human being.
“It is an album where I show my vulnerability without fear, where my voice is expressed more through singing than speaking, and one that people can relate to and feel free in every way.”
Looking beyond her own journey, Love also hopes to encourage other artists, especially women, to embrace their truth, to work hard and stay consistent.
