I have to admit, this is a collaboration I’ve been waiting for. Sjava and Msaki in one song? I was already excited, and then I found out Jesse Clegg is also on it. At that point, I knew we were in for something special.
If you haven’t heard, Clegg and Msaki are releasing a new single called “Wayside Lover" on Friday, September 19, and it features Sjava.
Clegg said: “Our first single drops this Friday, entitled Wayside Lover, and we are thrilled to announce that the one and only Sjava joins us on this track."
"Both of us have deep admiration for Sjava’s music and the unique place he holds in South African culture, so having him contribute to this song is an honour and a thrill. We are excited to share this single on Friday.”
The song comes from Clegg and Msaki’s joint EP, “Entropy”.
Msaki explained the meaning behind the EP: “Entropy, by definition, is the degradation of matter and energy in the universe into a state of uniformity. It represents the general tendency of the universe toward disorder, decay and eventual death."
"One may approach this idea with despair or with curiosity and acceptance. We are excited to let this story unfold and to share where some of these songs have come from.”
For me, what I’m most excited about with “Wayside Lover" is how the three voices will come together. I expect Sjava’s deep, textured tone to anchor the track and bring his signature storytelling to life.
Msaki’s voice, with its clarity and emotional depth, will add a reflective layer. Clegg’s vocals should tie everything together, providing melodic lines that balance the other two. I can’t wait to hear how their voices interact, creating harmony and rhythm that feel natural and powerful.
Beyond the new EP, Clegg and Msaki have a special show scheduled for October 19 at the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden in Gauteng.
They said the show is “for a special reason that you will find out soon.”
