First she starred in Tsotsi, the Oscar-winning South African movie. Then she became the face of cosmetic house L’Oréal Paris.
Now, for superstar-in-the-making Terry Pheto, Hollywood beckons.
Pheto has landed a role in the US soapie The Bold and the Beautiful. She will play a recurring role as a heart surgeon.
Pheto’s first eye-catching role was as Miriam in 2005’s Tsotsi. Next week she makes history as the first South African to land a role in the daytime TV drama.
The Soweto-born beauty will fulfil her new acting role on June 13, but it will be a full year before South African audiences get to see her on local screens.
Pheto is in Los Angeles preparing for her role, watching as the storyline unfolds to incorporate her character.
She left for the US on May 22 and has since celebrated her 30th birthday in Las Vegas.
She has been communicating with friends, including local designer Thula Sindi, via Twitter.
Some of the tweets read: “Loving the weather in LAlaland” and “Spontaneous trips are the best. Having a blast in San Francisco. Freezing, but who cares? *happy dance*”
David Gregg, vice-president of international publicity for The Bold and the Beautiful, said: “We have long wanted to engage our South African fan base in a direct manner, and when the opportunity came along to cast a South African actress of Terry’s scope and beauty in The Bold and the Beautiful, we knew we had to do it.”
Pheto is excited to be joining the cast.
“This is the opportunity of a lifetime and I look forward to sharing the screen with my soapie heroes, Katherine Kelly Lang and Susan Flannery, while sinking my thespian teeth into a challenging role,” she said. - The Star
