The inaugural Glenwood Book Fair, which will feature a line-up of authors and the launch of new books, will be held from Friday to Sunday at the Phansi Museum.

The fair is a partnership between the Durban International Book Fair and the Glenwood UIP with partners, including the Phansi Museum, Micromega, madeindurban.co.za and MyGlenwood.

MyGlenwood will also officially launch at the fair.

Apart from a fundraising comedy show with Oliver Tichmann (the only paid event), the fair is free. Authors who will launch their books include cartoonist Nanda Sooban, Dr Vasu Govender, Gordon Micheal, Dr Rajie Tudge, Sarada Naidoo and the Sastri College Alumni.

Authors who launched their books earlier this year - Irene Fynn, Elwyn Bonhomme, Duncan du Bois, Tolsi Mudaly and Dr Sunil Singh - will also showcase their books.

Anivesh Singh, the director of the Glenwood Book Fair, said they were excited to host the event in a suburb known for its appreciation of reading.

Anivesh and Kiru Naidoo annually hosts the Durban International Book Fair, which has become a highlight of the South African publishing calendar. This fair serves as a platform for book lovers, writers, and literary professionals to gather and celebrate literature.

It is a free event that brings together authors, poets, and creatives from South Africa and around the globe, offering a variety of activities like workshops, book launches, and discussions. The fair also promotes literacy and a love of reading, especially among young children, and has a long track record of launching new books and fostering literary exchange.

Anivesh said he hoped to do the same with the Glenwood Book Fair.
