IN A MOMENT of profound gratitude and reflection, Tholsi Pillay has been named the Artist Manager of the Year at the 2025 Basadi in Music Awards held recently at the Joburg Theatre.
She said the recognition not only highlighted her dedication to the music industry but also uplifted countless individuals who worked diligently behind the scenes.
Pillay, of Johannesburg, is the co-owner of Kellerman Music.
She has played an instrumental role in shaping the career of three-time Grammy award-winning flutist, composer, and producer Wouter Kellerman.
With five Grammy nominations, nine South African Music Awards out of 13 nominations, and three number one albums on the US Billboard Charts, Kellerman’s career is a testament to Pillay's visionary leadership.

Pillay, who was born and raised in Shallcross in Durban, said: "I am super grateful and incredibly blessed to be the 2025 Basadi in Music Awards ‘Artist Manager of the Year’ winner. This recognition is a celebration of every hardworking, passionate individual who plays a role in bringing artistry and vision to life. To be honoured in a space that uplifts women in music, to stand among such phenomenal, trailblazing women, makes this win even more meaningful.”
She said the music scene could be "incredibly male-dominated,” recalling times when she felt overlooked. However, she said she overcame these barriers by embracing her strategic thinking, relentless work ethic, and a determination to empower others.
"Consistency, respect, and excellence speak louder than credentials."
She said her parents "without a doubt" have been her biggest influence.
"Their values of humility, discipline, and selflessness continue to guide everything I do."
Pillay added that the enduring partnership with Kellerman played a crucial role in her professional journey.
"It is built on mutual trust and shared vision. We’ve proven that you don’t need big labels to make a global impact."
She said she had a few projects in the pipeline, including upcoming collaborations and a new album that promised to blend powerful storytelling with a global sound.
Her message during Women's Month: "You don’t need permission to dream big or take up space. Your journey won’t always be easy, but every challenge is shaping the powerful woman you're becoming. Choose purpose over perfection, lead with heart, and remember: your story matters. You're not just the future - you’re the now. Keep rising.”
In March, she won the 2025 Forbes Woman Africa Summit Award for Champion of Entertainment Promotion.
