IT WAS a night of glitz, glamour, and historical significance as the spotlight shone down on Verushka Singh, the newly-crowned Mrs South Africa.
She has become the first Indian South African to hold the title.
Residing in Steyn City, Johannesburg, the 39-year-old climate change consultant and chemical engineering graduate from the University of the Witwatersrand has positioned herself not just as a beauty queen but as a fearless advocate for environmental awareness.
She has a son, Zach, and has been married to Sasha Singh for nine years.
Her passion stems from a profound belief in the importance of living purposefully and maintaining a harmonious relationship with nature.
With a focus on advancing solutions that promote environmental resilience, Singh is committed to leveraging her platform to engage others in meaningful dialogues about sustainability. Her advocacy is the essence of her mission as Mrs South Africa: to foster awareness that transcends beauty and enters the realm of impact.
"I am passionate about climate change and sustainability, and I’m committed to advancing solutions that promote environmental resilience and responsible development. I enjoy spending quality time exploring with Zach, practising meditation, and engaging in soulful activities that keep me grounded and centred.
"As your new Mrs South Africa, I aim to use my platform to inspire awareness and meaningful conversations around climate change and sustainable living. I believe in living purposefully, staying connected to nature, and nurturing the balance between personal growth, family, and the planet we all share,” she said on the Mrs South Africa Facebook page.
Her journey, a remarkable milestone in South Africa's history, is testament to the evolving landscape of representation within the beauty industry and beyond.
As she embraces her new role, she looks forward not just to being a beacon of diversity and inclusion but also to embodying the spirit of advocacy for the environment that is inherent to her being. Singh intends to be a voice for those striving for change, encouraging others to feel empowered to make a difference, no matter the challenges they face.
