An evening of celebration, culture and storytelling will unfold at the Suncoast CineCentre on Thursday (April 23) at 6pm as guests gather for a unique triple celebration hosted by the Avalon Group.

The event will mark three significant milestones.

First, acclaimed South African writer Fakir Hassen will celebrate the release of 15 new digital books, bringing his impressive body of work to 100 published titles.

Known for his engaging and accessible style, Hassen’s latest collection spans humorous travelogues, witty essays on everyday life, and comprehensive quiz books covering subjects such as Bollywood and South Africa.

In a gesture that underscores the spirit of sharing knowledge and joy, every guest will receive all 15 new ebooks as a special complimentary gift.

Hassen said he was making the books available free of charge as he had always believed in sharing whatever experience or knowledge he had gained with as many people as possible and for future generations to avoid it becoming extinct when he was no longer around

The evening will also honour a personal milestone – the 50th wedding anniversary of Hassen and his wife, Zarina Hassen. Their enduring partnership has been a cornerstone of Hassen’s writing journey, making this celebration as much about love and support as it is about literary achievement.

Completing the triple celebration is the 87th anniversary of the Avalon Group, a pioneer in South Africa’s cinema exhibition industry since 1939. The group’s longstanding contribution to entertainment and community engagement will be fittingly recognised on this special occasion.

Adding to the festivities, courtesy of AB Moosa, CEO of the Avalon Group, guests will enjoy a screening of a latest Bollywood film, along with complimentary popcorn and soda, creating a true cinema experience. Attendance is free, but seating is limited and strictly allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

To confirm seats for two, guests are required to send a WhatsApp message to 082 457 3737 before Friday, April 19. This promises to be an unforgettable evening celebrating literature, legacy, love and the magic of cinema – all under one roof.
