Unaiza Suliman, a beauty entrepreneur, is revolutionising the industry in South Africa by offering halaal-focused training and job opportunities in eyebrow styling for young people.

The method, known as halaal brow styling, shapes and enhances eyebrows without removing hair, in line with Islamic principles.

It is being used as part of a wider push to open up entry-level work in the sector.

Suliman said the aim was to give young people practical skills they could use to earn an income.

“We want to create opportunities where young people can learn a skill and start working for themselves,” Suliman said.

Training includes brow styling techniques, customer service, and basic business skills.

The goal, she said, was to prepare participants to either work in salons or start their own small businesses.

Suliman said many young people were shut out of the beauty industry because they lacked access to training.

“This is about more than beauty," she said.

"It is about skills and creating a way for people to make a living."

The initiative comes as brow treatments continue to grow in popularity, with services like shaping and tinting now a regular feature in salons across the country.

The model is being positioned as both a training project and a small business pathway for new entrants into the beauty industry.
