FIRST and foremost, we extend our sincere condolences to the Ramiah family for the loss of Julian. The loss of any life is a tragedy, and we recognise the profound grief his family is experiencing and the advocacy for justice.
Whilst we empathise with their loss, our silence until now has not been an admission of guilt rather, it has been a deliberate choice made in the best interests of the child at the centre of this tragedy, who will one day need to understand the truth about both his parents with dignity and compassion.
We have also maintained our silence out of profound respect for the legal process.
The evidence presented in court tells a very different story from what has been portrayed in public which documents a pattern of physical, emotional, and psychological abuse that Sarah endured.
Contrary to suggestions that Sarah moved to Cape Town to reconcile with Julian, her move was for a career promotion. She had made it known that the living arrangement was explicitly temporary until she could secure her own apartment.
We are deeply troubled by individuals who had little to no active involvement in Julian’s life coming forward with unsupported claims that contradict the evidence before the court. We are equally concerned by the spread of information that has been demonstrably contradicted by evidence presented under oath in legal proceedings.
We trust that when all facts are properly examined, free from the distortion of social media echo chambers that justice will be served and we will be making no further comments or statements going forward as we leave this in the court’s hands.
We have requested, both privately and through legal channels, that Julian’s family extend the same respect to the legal process. Despite a court-issued protection order specifically designed to prevent the spread of false information and to protect witnesses from harassment and intimidation, these requests have not been honoured.
We call on all parties to allow the legal process to unfold with the dignity and fairness it deserves and the public to remember that behind every headline is a real human story, a real child, and a real need for truth and justice.
This letter is on behalf of Sarah Lee Naidoo and her family in response to recent media coverage and ongoing social media commentary surrounding Julian Ramiah's murder.
