IT IS WITH deep sadness that the passing of Sergeant Ganesan Arumugam, fondly known as “Aroo”, was recently announced.

He was a dedicated and respected member of the South African Police, joining in the early 1960s and serving at stations including Mayville, Chatsworth, Mount Edgecombe, and later Phoenix.

He was known for his hard work, attention to detail, and professionalism in all duties, from charge office work to patrols. Despite being older than many colleagues, he was humble, kind, and always willing to help, often sharing wisdom and encouraging younger officers to stay vigilant and committed.

He showed great bravery, never avoided difficult situations, and maintained an excellent service record throughout his career, even working on rest days without complaint.

After being promoted to sergeant, he continued to serve with dedication until retirement, and remained active in his community well into his eighties, living a simple and meaningful life. Rest in peace, sir. Salute.
