SAPS says a crocodile believed to have eaten a missing man was euthanised in the Komati River after being tracked for days, with human remains later recovered during a post-mortem examination.

"WATCH: police captain's heroics save the day in crocodile recovery of possible missing person", the POST, May 5, refers.

Wild animals are not criminals, and this crocodile was simply behaving as a crocodile does in their natural habitat.

Wildlife should not pay with their lives for situations created by human encroachment and risky infrastructure decisions.

What can save lives is better public education, clear warning signs, and measures that keep humans and wildlife safely separated.
