Durban - Two armed suspects robbed a Verulam fast food restaurant on Wick Street in the CBD on Saturday.
Provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala said it was alleged that yesterday at 6.30pm two armed men entered the business premises.
“The suspects took cash and a cellphone before fleeing the scene. A shot was fired but no injuries were reported,” she said.
Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) spokesperson Prem Balram said Rusa received a call for assistance from a take away business just after 6.30pm.
Balram said when officers arrived it was established that two men entered the store and held up the owner and his employees.
He said one of the suspects was armed with a gun.
“The victims were forced into the kitchen where they were asked to hand over their valuables. The owner, a Pakistani national, was robbed of his day’s takings,” said Balram.
He said one of the suspect’s fired a shot and the bullet struck a pizza oven.
“The robbers fled the scene in an unknown direction,” he said.
Police said a case of business robbery is investigated by Verulam SAPS.
