No Cyril, these are not paparazzi 'spy shots' but (rather amateur) official Porsche teasers of four Macan pre-production prototypes getting down and dirty during testing in California.
The four mules in these pictures don't look as if any serious effort has been made to disguise them, but they're all slightly different, especially in their front treatment, which is either subtle disinformation, or the cars represent different derivatives of Porsche's first compact SUV.
These are expected to include a 189kW three-litre turbodiesel, a three-litre biturbo petrol V6 and a badass 3.6-litre biturbo V6 rated at 294kW and 550Nm, with a smaller engine (likely a four-cylinder turbodiesel not unrelated to the proven VW/Audi two-litre TDI) mooted for the European market.
FAMILY RESEMBLANCE
What the pictures do clearly show, however, is the Macan's family resemblance to the Cayenne, with swoopy curves, bold detailing and fashionable LED lighting in all directions.
Porsche did drop one new snippet, however, of which it must be inordinately proud: apparently the faceless Brussels Eurocrats have rated the Macan at an average of 9.2 litres per 100km around town and 6.1 on the open road, with CO2 emissions of 216 and 159g/km respectively.
That puts the Macan range as a whole inside the parameters for EU 6 compliancy, which should lower Porsche's overall rating as a manufacturer.
