Lewis Hamilton will need to drive with a chip on his shoulder this season if he wants to keep his seat for another campaign, that’s if the seven-time world champion even wants to continue beyond this year.
The threat comes as a Haas rookie Oliver Bearman has been unofficially earmarked as Hamilton’s potential successor at Scuderia Ferrari.
While no official decision has been made, paddock whispers suggest the Italian team already has one eye on the future, and Bearman’s name keeps appearing whenever Ferrari’s long-term driver lineup is discussed.
Bearman, a product of the prestigious Ferrari Driver Academy, has been on the radar of the Maranello outfit for several years. Born in Chelmsford, England in 2005, the young Briton climbed the junior ranks quickly through karting and the Formula 4 and Formula 2 ladders before breaking into Formula One.
His big moment came in 2024 when he stepped in for Ferrari at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix and scored points on debut, finishing seventh in a performance that immediately turned heads across the paddock.
A full-time seat followed with Haas F1 Team, where Bearman began building his reputation as one of the sport’s most promising young talents. In his rookie campaign he competed across the full 24-race calendar and finished 13th in the drivers’ championship with 41 points, even securing an eye-catching fourth-place finish at the Mexican Grand Prix.
Like most rookies, however, Bearman’s season was not without its growing pains. A handful of crashes and penalties during the early part of the year underlined the steep learning curve facing a 20-year-old driver stepping into the sport’s most competitive arena.
Yet by the second half of the campaign he appeared far more composed, regularly fighting for points and even outperforming more experienced rivals. That steady improvement has not gone unnoticed in Maranello.
For Hamilton, the emergence of a young Ferrari-backed driver waiting in the wings could serve as the perfect motivation. At 40 years old, the British legend remains one of the greatest drivers the sport has ever seen, but Formula One is an unforgiving environment that demands peak physical fitness, relentless focus and mental resilience.
Even the greatest champions eventually feel the toll. Besides the physical demand, Hamilton has entered another dimension in his career regarding business.
The name Lewis Hamilton is essentially his greatest asset, and has acquired diverse portfolios and is keen on making a follow up to F1 the movie. Hollywood increasingly looks more like his next move, especially with his current unconfirmed relationship with Hollywood's sex symbol - Kim Kardashian. Hamilton has his hands full, to say the least.
Still, if there is one driver capable of responding to pressure, it is Hamilton. The seven-time world champion has built his career on proving doubters wrong and delivering when the stakes are highest.
The Australian Grand Prix circuit will host the first race of the season.

And perhaps the presence of Bearman, a rising star eager for his chance, might just provide the spark Hamilton needs for one final charge.
Whether this season proves to be his last remains uncertain. But if it is, another championship push from the Brit would be a fitting way to remind the world exactly why he became one of Formula One’s greatest drivers in the first place.
