Craig Steynberg Craig Steynberg
THE search continues for a 23-year-old man who went missing at Splashy Fen between Sunday night and Monday afternoon.
Craig Steynberg, of Randburg in Joburg, is believed to have gone missing during the festival near Underberg.
His sister Kristen and family are desperately trying to locate him.
“Craig lost his cellphone during Splashy Fen, so we have had no contact with him. Last we heard, he was spotted trying to get a lift in Underberg and then on Wednesday someone said they saw a man matching his description walking along the M13 toward Durban,” she said. Underberg police have conducted ground and air searches, and have also interviewed friends, locals and neighbouring farmers.
Splashy Fen festival organiser Pedro Carlo said there had been a similar incident 12 years ago, when a young man was reported as missing but turned up in Joburg se- veral days later.
“A friend of Craig’s contacted me on Monday night (April 25) to say that Craig had not been seen since 1am on Sunday morning. Berg Protection Services and the SAPS were then brought in to try and locate him. Craig’s father and uncle have since been at Splashy Fen farm looking for him,” Carlo said.
“Apparently he was last seen at a taxi rank in Underberg, some 25km from Splashy Fen. However, he has still not been located. We will continue to do everything we can to support Craig’s family and the authorities in their search,” he said.
