A rhino poacher was critically injured during a shoot-out with Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife rangers on Wednesday.
Three armed poachers were in the Mphandeni area in Ndumo at about 5am, when the Ezemvelo Anti-Poaching Unit intercepted them.
The poachers then started shooting.
“Our rangers shot back and one of the poachers was injured and taken to hospital,” said Ezemvelo communications manager Musa Mntambo.
“No one else was hurt.”
Mntambo said rangers were informed of the poachers by the Ezemvelo informer network. “We sent our rangers there immediately,” he said.
The other two poachers managed to escape.
Mntambo said the incident had been reported to the police. - Daily News
