Los Angeles - Lava flows shaped like coils of rope have been found near the equator of Mars.
The discovery was made by Arizona State University graduate student Andrew Ryan, who looked at about 100 high-resolution images of the planet.
On Earth, lava coils can be found on Hawaii's Big Island and on the Pacific seafloor. While there's evidence of lava flows in many places on Mars, this is the first time they've been shaped like this.
The finding was reported in Thursday's issue of Science. - Sapa-AP
