Durban - Police are searching for four men who are believed to have been involved in the shooting of a Winterton businessman on his farm.
Rajoo Grewan, 41, had been with his wife in his Toyota bakkie when they were held up by the men at his gate last Friday evening.
Provincial police spokesman Captain Thulani Zwane said: “When he asked them what they wanted they shot him twice and he died.”
The men demanded cash and cellphones from Grewan’s wife, Zwane said.
A relative, who asked not to be named, said Grewan, who had owned a restaurant in the area, had gone to pick up his wife from a prayer meeting at his mother’s house after 8pm on Friday.
“When they got to his house, there was a problem with the gate and his wife had to get out to open it manually. That is when the four men suddenly appeared, which makes us believe that they were already waiting for them,” he said.
According to the relative, Grewan tried to reverse his car in an attempt to escape, but the men overpowered him. He was shot dead and his body tossed out of the car, before the four sped off in it.
The relative said Grewan’s vehicle was found abandoned the next day in Wembezi, Estcourt.
“We are still shocked by his sudden death. His wife and 12-year-old son are not taking the death very well,” he said.
Grewan was described by the relative as a “ very pleasant” person.
“We just hope that the people who did this do get caught,” he said.
Zwane said the police were investigating a case of murder, armed robbery and carjacking. No arrests have been made.
