Cops hunt Cape Town club shooter

Cape Town - Police are hunting for a man who shot and wounded three people outside a popular Cape Town night spot after he was allegedly thrown out of the establishment by bouncers.

The shooting happened outside the Chilli Bar in Southfield at about 2.30am on Sunday.

The motive for the shooting was unknown but it was believed the man had been involved in an argument at the club shortly before the incident, police liaison officer Lieutenant Colonel André Traut said on Monday.

Traut said police were investigating cases of attempted murder.

The gunman was said to have fired six shots, hitting the three people. He fled in a red Mini Cooper.

Police arrived and began gathering evidence, while paramedics treated the three wounded before they were taken to Victoria Hospital.

Bullets were said to have hit the building, as well as parked cars.

The Chilli Bar was in the news twice last year after a deadly car smash on January 16 and an ATM bombing.

Six people died in the crash, one of them a patrolling security guard, when a car smashed into an empty shop next to the club as it was about to close for the night.

An ATM next to the Chilli Bar was blown to pieces on November 21, leaving the area strewn with debris and snarling up morning traffic.

At the time, police spokesman FC van Wyk said “unknown explosives” had been detonated at about 3.25am. The ATM was destroyed.
